Psychometry

Psychometry (from Greek: ψυχή, psukhē, "spirit, soul"; + μέτρον, metron, "measure"), also known as token-object reading, or psychoscopy, is a form of extra-sensory perception characterized by the claimed ability to make relevant associations from an object of unknown history by making physical contact with that object. Psychics assert that an object may have an energy field that transfers knowledge regarding that object's history. Thanks Wikipedia!

What does that mean or you? You can learn what an object's past was simply by touching it. Just make a Perception/Notice check while touching what you want to read and you'll learn all about the previous owner/owners and just what they did to come to where they are now. At the higher level, this can work on organics. Depending on how successful the roll, the PGM or staff member running the scene will tell you what you deserve to know. One success level means you know who had it last, but probably not why. Three success levels means you know the objects basic uses and who had it last, what they did, and why they did it. More than that and you are veering into territory to learn of its initial creators and owners before the latest.

At the highest level, you have the temporary ability to harness the object's memories, and depending on the object, you can bolster a skill associated with the psychometric object by a number equal to your Willpower score. For instance, if you have the highest level of this skill, and you encounter a sword that once belonged to a master fencer, so long as you're holding the object you can add your willpower score to the DEX/Getting Medieval roll. The same would be true for a DEX/Art roll if you picked up a musician's favorite guitar, or to a STR/Sports roll if you were to wear a well-used jock strap.
